Marketing Myths in the Private Jet Industry

JetWay debunks six common myths in the private jet industry.

MYTH #1: AIRCRAFT AGE MATTERS

The larger fractional and time card companies want you to believe that the age of the aircraft matters for reasons such as safety and comfort, implying that an older aircraft is less safe and less appealing. Air Force One, the Boeing 747 that flies the President, was built over 30 years ago in 1987! A plane’s safety is not determined solely by age, but by many factors including maintenance history and crew members. At JetWay we access both new and well-maintained older aircraft that are operated by world class pilots.

MYTH #2: FRACTIONAL & TIME CARD COMPANIES USE ONLY NEWER PLANES

Other companies want you to believe that they only use newer planes. However, these companies put their clients in older planes all of the time. For example, other companies explicitly state that charter aircraft used to fly their clients can be “25 years of age” or older, if approved. At JetWay we access both new and well-maintained older aircraft that are consistently refurbished to look new.

MYTH #3: FRACTIONAL & TIME CARD COMPANIES USE ONLY THEIR OWN PLANES

Other companies claim that they fly their clients exclusively on their own fleets, but they do not. All major fractional companies spend millions and millions of dollars each and every year on “charter” aircraft to supplement their fleets during “peak” demand periods and, in the process, admit that “charter” aircraft provide travelers the highest level of quality, reliability, and safety.

MYTH#4: FRACTIONAL & TIME CARD COMPANIES HAVE BETTER PILOTS

Other companies would have you believe that their pilots are better than “charter” pilots because they have more experience (total hours flown) and are specialized (flying only one plane “type”). The facts suggest otherwise as these pilots are virtually interchangeable regarding both experience and type ratings. And most every pilot in the private jet industry, “charter” or fractional/time card, receives training at the same company: Flight Safety International.

MYTH #5: FRACTIONAL & TIME CARD COMPANIES PLANES ARE SAFER

Other companies suggest that their “newer” planes and “type dedicated” pilots create a safer flying experience. This is simply not supported by the statistics. Other companies consistently use pilots who are type-rated on multiple aircraft and there is no data to suggest there is a safety difference between fractional, time card, and chartered private jets.

MYTH #6: FRACTIONAL & TIME CARD COMPANIES USE HIGHER SAFETY STANDARDS

These other companies claim that they are safer than “charter” when, in fact, they regularly use the very same planes and crews that JetWay uses all of the time in our safe and reliable FAA Part 135 “charter” industry. And given this regular use by these companies of “charter” aircraft and crews, and the constant safety evaluations of said aircraft and crews by these companies as part of their safety procedures, a very, very safe “charter” environment has been created for our JetWay clients. And the statistics bear this out.
